Adina Shapiro, LCSW, obtained her MSW degree in 1981 from Columbia University School of Social Work and became certified in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis by Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in 1990.
While in NYC she coordinated an HIV counseling program at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, where she supervised other therapists and led a number of groups, including one for family members of HIV positive patients. She is on the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work and has taught and practiced in a variety of settings in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
She has received specialized training in treating eating disorders and in the use of imagery and other experiential techniques to complement traditional psychotherapy practices. She is fluent in Hebrew.
